Julie Bonello, Chief Information Officer at Access Community Health Network, has achieved professional certification from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).
A Certified Health Care CIO (CHCIO) represents achievement of the highest standard of professional development for health care CIOs. Launched by CHIME in July 2009, the certification program is the only credentialing program that distinguishes health care IT executives from others in the industry.
To become certified, Julie Bonello, a resident of Chicago, had to pass a rigorous 125-question examination and possess specific professional qualifications, including 25 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and at least three years of experience as a CIO or equivalent.
"We congratulate Julie Bonello for her commitment to the health care CIO profession," said CHIME President and CEO Russell P. Branzell. "As a CHCIO, Julie Bonello has identified herself as a leading professional, giving her an immediate and continuous advantage in the industry. We believe CHCIO status is now the standard that organizations must use when determining who leads healthcare IT projects and initiatives."
The CHCIO Program was developed for CIOs by CIOs, with input from CHIME member volunteers and certification professionals at Castle Worldwide. By definition, a CHCIO demonstrates the commitment, knowledge, and experience required to master the core skills important for successful CIOs and IT executives.
In addition to the exam and professional experience, CHCIOs must be committed to ongoing professional development and undergo recertification every three years.
Bonello has worked at Access Community Health Network since 2009, and she is excited about furthering her expertise in health care technology. "The CHCIO certificate is my industry's benchmark of proven abilities and leadership as a health care CIO," said Bonello. "As our organization completed the four-year EHR rollout and received national recognition by earning Stage 6 HIMSS EHR Adoption Model certification, it was important to me, as one of the charter members of the CHIME (College of Healthcare Information Management Executives) organization to concurrently earn my CHCIO certificate. Both recognitions provide us greater ability to work with and learn from other organizations who have achieved similar success."
